Our weekly program consists of four events (from the below list of Track and Field Events) for all age groups. U9 to U12 will also participate in a skills session each Friday competition night, which will focus on a different event discipline each week.
The range of events differs depending on the age group. There is a set program every Friday – U6 and U7 do 4 events, and others do 5 on a typical night. The typical finish time is around 7-7.30pm (earlier for Tiny Tots).
Tiny tots: have a separate program, with games and some track events that introduce them to some of the skills and fun of competing.

A Centre from within our region (Sun Coast) hosts Regional Relays each November. In the lead up to this event, we will assess the performances of our athletes and place them into relay ‘teams’.
From here, teams that qualify for State Relays head off to Brisbane where they compete against the best in the State. Our performances at these events are usually outstanding with athletes consistently returning personal best results.
After the Christmas break, we prepare for the Regional Championships where athletes compete on an individual basis. From here, qualifying athletes are invited to compete in the State Championships, held in Brisbane at QSAF or alternatively north Queensland (Townsville or Cairns) where it is held every third year.
This is an important event for athletes in the U13 and U15 age groups. State team selectors are present at the State Championships held in February each year, keeping an eye out for qualifying athletes from all Queensland centres.
The Australian Little Athletics Championships consists of athletes from the U13 and U15 age groups only. The Queensland state team consists of a total of 11 boys and 11 girls from the U13’s compete as individuals and 2 boys and 2 girls from the U15’s compete in a pentathlon.
The team is selected on an U13 athletes’ points-scoring abilities. You must have competed at least 60% of our Friday night competitions to be eligible for selection.

Each season of Little Athletics culminates with a Presentation and Awards Night where we recognise the efforts that our athletes have put in throughout the season.
Outstanding performances at Centre, Regional, State and National levels are recognised. Where possible, we will host the Presentation and Awards Night after State Championships. This is a fantastic way to end our season and we encourage all athletes and their family to take part and celebrate with us.
